About Us

J Kuhn Copper is led by Jacob Kuhn, a second-generation master copper and slate craftsman. Born and raised in the Berkshires, Jacob has dedicated his entire career to mastering the art of copper and slate. He began apprenticing under his father, artisan John Kuhn, in his early teens. John established his copper and slate business, John Kuhn Copper, in 1982 and spent more than 42 years building a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship.

Upon John’s retirement in 2024, Jacob and his wife, Erin, assumed leadership of the company under the name J Kuhn Copper. The name honors John’s legacy, while charting a new course for the family, guided by Jacob’s more than 25 years of experience.

Originally from Iowa, Erin first came to the Berkshires to attend Bard College at Simon’s Rock. After falling in love—first with the Berkshires, and then with Jacob—she put down roots in Great Barrington. Erin spent many years as a fine wine representative serving wine shops and restaurants throughout Berkshire County. After working in operations management, she now serves as the CFO of J Kuhn Copper. Their two sons proudly hold the title of CCOs—Chief Cuteness Officers.
